Why on Earth was Tranzit the only map to be split up into smaller 'survival' maps!? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:31 AM PDT I love big complicated maps with a challenging easter egg, epic boss fight and a whole bunch of side quests to keep you busy. But sometimes I just wanna jump on and have that casual experience like the old days. I find it difficult to play a map without finding myself progressing through the easter egg... Tranzit got one thing right, splitting the big complex map into 4 small simple survival maps. Each one offered a different experience: - Bus Depot. Complete barebones with nothing but a mystery box. Just like Nacht. - Farm. Slightly more complex with the addition of perks. Just like Verrückt and Shi No Numa. - Town. Much 'larger' than the previous two with clear sections like the Bar, Bank, Jug room and Double Tap alleyway. Even more complex with the addition of Pack'a'Punch aswell as perks. Just like Der Riese. - Diner (Grief). A fun casual 'infected' side mode with much less pressure than the regular mode. This format meant that there was something for every kind of zombies player and every kind of play style. It gave a lot more variety and replayability with very minimal effort since the maps are literally just cut out sections of the main map. This was only ever repeated three times outside of Tranzit, and I don't think any of them really count... - Cell Block (Grief). It was another grief map, this time base on Mob of the Dead, which while fun, didn't allow for that basic survival experience. - Borough (Grief). A Buried grief map, again fun but it wasn't survival. - Gröesten Haus. A reskin of a house taken straight out of the WW2 campaign and also used as the location of the zombies tutorial/prologue. Very tight and barebones which didn't work well considering Wüstlings and Brenners spawned on the map. Many complaints about zombies are that it is either too 'hardcore' or caters to 'casuals'. There is rarely a good inbetween. Making maps large and complex and then splitting them up into smaller survival maps is a great way to please both the casual and hardcore audience without requiring too much additional effort whilst also adding endless variety and replayability to the game. They could even release these smaller survival maps gradually after the maps initial release to keep people engaged until the next big map release... I'll never understand why they didn't continue to capitalise on this idea after Tranzit. [link] [comments] | ||
