Been playing a lot of zombies before cold war, and Moon is the only EE I've never actually done. I am now in pain as I have spent 50+ rounds without getting tunnel 6

Even if Die Maschine isn't a great map, it doesn't suddenly mean Cold War Zombies will be bad

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 04:30 AM PST

A lot of people are giving their two cents about Cold War Zombies, and Die Maschine in particular, following the leaks and I may as well chuck my thoughts in too.

I'm not entirely convinced about what I've seen but at the same time, it's impossible to judge a game without playing it yourself. It feels like a lot people want this game to fail just so they can be proven right but I'm still excited to see how this game develops over the next 12 months.

Just like the title says, even if Die Maschine ends up being an average map, it doesn't suddenly mean Cold War Zombies is doomed to fail.

Just look at how Black Ops 2 developed over a year. It started off with TranZit and Die Rise, arguably the two worst maps in the entire franchise and the only playable main maps for around 4 months. Even when fans speculated "zombies was over" back then, Treyarch won everyone back thanks to maps like Mob of the Dead and Origins and now BO2 is looked back on so fondly by fans.

Even Black Ops 3 had a shaky beginning because initially Shadows of Evil was too challenging and people preferred to play The Giant. Thankfully, SoE eventually recieved the credit it deserved but a lot of impressions on the map were proven wrong.

Every Treyarch game from WAW to BO4 has had some incredible maps and I have no doubt that we'll see the same once again in BOCW, even if Die Maschine isn't the map that everyone dreamed of.

Edit: Felt like including this because a lot of comments mention it. In the past, we've seen Treyarch remove/improve features that were heavily criticised, e.g. no bank and perma-perks in MOTD/Origins, changes to the hit system in both BO3 and BO4, improved access to GGs in BO3, etc. While certain aspects like the new point system will probably stay, I have no doubt that they'll change certain features as the game progresses to improve the experience for everyone.

Imagine if there was a game called “Call of Duty: Zombies” with every map but you unlock maps by completing every Easter egg in order

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 11:39 AM PST

How dope would that be? Like zombies campaign but just Easter eggs in order of the storyline and once you beat a map you permanently unlock it. I was thinking maybe there could be a mix of weapons from all zombies games (besides bo4), or each map could just have the weapons from the game it was originally on. Also maps that don't have Easter eggs could either be already unlocked or you would have to do a challenge like make it to round 30 or something

spreading disinformation and making hopeful assumptions are 100% going to hurt this game.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:11 AM PST

People claiming that we'll be getting a new map season 1 and spreading disinfo about tutorial/classic modes & the heads up display, are setting this game up for failure.

    • *Unless Treyarch says they're gonna release a map season 1 (which they explicitly didn't) they probably won't. They want to sell copies. If they thought a new map was coming season 1, they'd 100% advertise it.

    • A lot of people know as of now, that it seems like the mini map CANNOT be toggled right now.

    • Also, the gameplay we see is the standard mode, not a tutorial. What we see is what we get*. You don't have to like this stuff but don't lie about it.

When you say otherwise without knowing for sure, you're setting unrealistic expectations for the game. Setting up people to be disappointed when they realize that those features aren't in the game right now. Maybe you're trying to help: but it's just best to keep your expectations realistic and keep the spread of disinformation at a minimum.

Thoughts on Cold War leaks now that I’ve had time to marinate my thoughts

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 04:15 PM PST

I was really skeptical at first but honestly I saw some semi high round gameplay (20's) and now I think it looks fucking great and will hopefully feel great too. And I think it's amazing how they're catering to beginners and warzone/mp players since us veterans can just toggle off most of the tutorial-like options while the size of our community potentially increases. I know a lot of u guys are pretty hard-headed about this and say it'll ruin the gameplay but I honestly doubt that'll be the case since the changes look to be pretty thought-out and well implemented. And I'm just excited I'll hopefully be able to enjoy new zombies content and have an easier time introducing it to my friends :)
