Hot Take: BOCW will fix the progression problem we've had tracing back to BO2

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:39 AM PDT

I am prepared for the downvotes, but hear me out. The issue with natural progression is that long term players will seek out optimal strategies to maximize the speedrun or ensure easier high rounds. That's how the game works. The progression breaking mechanic in BO2 was the bank and weapon locker. On round 1 in the maps that they were implemented, you could have 50,000 points and a packed Galil. If you were doing a high round or easter egg on Buried, you likely used the point bank to make everything a little easier, like getting the paralyzer and time bomb from the box. Why wouldn't you use it? It was the optimal strategy that the game design encouraged.

Next up is BO3. Perkaholic and shopping free destroyed early game progression, especially since widows wine enhanced knife damage. Want to speedrun ZNS EE, guess you will have to fork over another couple of ultra rare gobblegums. Of course you don't have to bring them, but your run will simply be sub-optimal.

BO4 specialist weapons, especially the katana and hammer of Valhalla was a ready and available get out of death card that would allow you to do whatever you want (especially the katana).

That brings us to CW. As the games progressed, there was less and less reason to hit the mystery box. Why hit the box if a wall weapon will be just as effective with double pack as a box weapon? Why hit the box if I can craft the wonder weapon? In some maps, the only reason to hit the box is for the wonder weapon, and once its gone there is no reason to hit the box. The box lost its charm. But, now with weapon rarities, you are incentivized to hit the box for optimal damage on a gun. Your starting loadout gun will most likely be of the most common rarity, and therefore you will be encouraged to replace it with a box gun. What's this? Now I have to hit the box for the wall gun I want of the correct rarity. And when you get it, the dopamine rush will be real. It will feel like you got a wonder weapon. It's like the difference between having a purple scar and gold scar in fortnite (sorry for the comparison, but it's true). The optimal strategy encourages a progression from starter loadout, to box, to pack a punch, as it used to be in BO1.

Oh and for scorestreaks, they literally cannot be any better than the katana from BO4 and the ragnoroks from BO3. The chopper we saw in the trailer only works if you are outside the bunker. Chill people.

Ignore this post if they reintroduce a gobblegum system.

TLDR: Progression will only be fixed if a natural progression is the optimal strategy. Weapon rarities make the box exciting again, loadouts will have common rarities which encourage hitting the box, scorestreaks will be more balanced than specialist weapons in BO4, and people are ignoring the destructive impact gobblegums had at destroying progression in BO3.

This sub needs to learn you're never getting the original experience again.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 09:38 AM PDT

Just as the title says, you'd think people would realize that after 3 games of evolution. They're never gonna go back to that original vanilla experience from BO1/WaW and it couldn't be made clearer by the actual people at treyarch who usually double down on their decisions. But honestly this sub has always been on a downward spiral since revelations happen so no surprise there with the current reaction to cold war zombies

I think the light coming from the box depicts the rarity of the weapon.

My theory as to why Nolan North’s tik tok announcement has not been taken down.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:46 AM PDT

    TL:DR at the bottom.

As we all know, Activision is known for taking down leaks and spoilers rather quickly. Which is why I, and many others have been confused as to why Nolan North's announcement that our good old Dr. Edward Richtofen will not be returning in Black Ops Cold War has not been taken down. Some may argue the damage is done, but I think otherwise.

Now please take a moment to consider if this is all misleading, along with all the attention being on Samantha Maxis and Weaver returning.

Sam wasn't the only one that went to the light at the end of Black Ops 4 zombies. Eddie Richtofen accompanied her.

Uncle Noly said that Dr. Edward Richtofen wasn't returning. Keep in mind, he didn't say Richtofen, he said DOCTOR Edward Richtofen.

What if this is all a way to draw away from Nolan returning to voice not the Doctor, but a grown up EDDIE Richtofen?

I may be reading too much into this, but this is my theory.

TL:DR My theory is that Eddie Richtofen is coming back.
