I’ve played bo4 zombies for the last 3 months without touching bo3. Today I’m playing bo3 and I can’t wait.

Why is this fanbase so obsessed with innovation?

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 09:51 AM PDT

Honestly, being in quite a few game fanbases and their respective subreddits, this is one of the few things that I just can't quite understand from the zombies fanbase. A lot of people dislike Kino for what it is, simply because it didn't innovate much. I can't get on board with that mentality.

For me, both der Riese and Kino are two of the most replayable maps ever (especially with friends.) They give you far more freedom to approach the map how you want as compared to basically all of the BO3 DLCs, which are seriously linear. Don't get me wrong, DE is my favourite map, I love Shadows and Gorod Krovi and Zetsubou are ok, but the way you play them is the same every time.

I get that if Treyarch never innovated, zombies would grow stale, but do they really need to innovate with every map they make? I think sometimes a certain innovation (like the zombie shield and craftable wonder weapons) are enough to provide for like 3/4 maps following it without growing stale, but maybe I am just a sucker for the core zombies gameplay. Anyway, if anyone in on board with innovation being one of the most important things about a map, please let me know how you feel about it.

What CoD 2020 could benefit from: Unique Pack-a-Punch Upgrades

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 06:35 AM PDT

In Black Ops 3 and 4, upgrading your weapon has become a bit stale. For just about every weapon you put in the Pack-a-Punch machine, you know what you're going to get. Increased damage, increased ammo capacity, yadda yadda. It's rare that weapons are upgraded in any really unique or interesting way.

Sure there are Double Pack-a-Punch upgrades, but again, those aren't really all that unique. The individual effects don't really change from weapon to weapon. "Turned" on the Dingo isn't all that different compared to the RK5.

To be honest, I wouldn't even have really noticed this - if it weren't for WWII. In my opinion, SHG really knocked it out of the park when it came to upgrades. When you place many of the weapons in the Ubersprengen machine, they are changed in really unique ways.

These are some of my favorites, but you can find more here. I've also listed what type of weapon each is, since I expect not many people are super familiar with WWII's weapons.

    • MG-15 (LMG) - A bubble shield is deployed when you completely empty your magazine, stunning and killing zombies that enter it

    • Chatellerault (LMG) - Shooting teammates (even when downed) gives them a protective effect that kills zombies with explosions when they get too close

    • De Lisle (Bolt-Action Suppressed Sniper) - A small glowing light will appear on whatever surface you hit, and after a few seconds shoot at the heads of whatever zombies are in range to inflict serious damage

    • Blunderbuss (Shotgun) - Shoots out multiple bright and colorful grenades, turning it into the "Fun-derbuss"

    • Bechowiec (SMG) - Essentially turns the player into a Soul Box, where once fully charged the next melee attack creates a field that stuns zombies and explodes.

    • 9MM SAP (Pistol) - Fires multiple bullets per shot, with it acting like a shotgun when fired from the hip

    • KG M-21 (Assault Rifle) - Gives the player infinite reserve ammo, but the size of the magazine is randomized to hold anywhere between 4 and 50 shots

I found that these sort of unique upgrades made the game a lot more fun. It was always a sort of adventure to get a new gun out of the Mystery Box and figure out what the hell was going to happen when it was upgraded!

Personally, I think giving weapons more interesting and unique effects adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the game, and would be a worthwhile addition to the next game. What do you think?
